Reducing employee
turnover from 100% to 0 in two years
Leadership
Tip of the Month by Ron Jasniowski
Have you ever heard of
zero employee turnover in foodservice? Sometimes just learning
what someone else did, is all it takes to encourage others to
accomplish something similar. The foodservice dept. at Rolling
Plains Hospital reduced employee turnover from 100% to 0 in two
years. Is this replicable? Probably. Numerous organizations have
reported dramatic reductions in employee turnover due to
character-based leadership skills.
Going into the
details of how turnover went from 100% to 0 is beyond this
issue. But I can give one tip in this issue and more in future
issues.
Chuck Browning, the
man responsible for reducing turnover in the foodservice dept.,
said the most significant thing is for supervisors to have a
heart/attitude change toward their employees. This means
treating them as the valuable resource they are. Spend time with
them and get to know them on a personal level. Don't take them
and their talents for granted. Help them develop their untapped
potential. And don't hold grudges when they mess up, apply
character-based correction (if necessary).
As the economy
continues to improve, employee turnover will increase. Prepare
your managers and supervisors with leadership skills that reduce
turnover and develop the untapped potential in your employees.
Feel free to ask me for more details on how Rolling Plains
reduced turnover from 100% to 0.
Future issues will provide you with
more details on how you can reach the next level of leadership
success.
